Living with Saint Francis

Francis emphasised in his writings that the spirit of prayer and devotion must come above all else in the earthly life of a friar. In these prayers and meditations Br Eunan OFM wished to follow that precept laid down by Francis and at the same time highlight this essential characteristic of the Saint from Assisi, about whom there seems to be always more to know.

Description

From cardinals to lay visitors, Friar Eunan has given guides and retreats in the little town of St Francis for some twenty years, as a friar who entered in the Province of Umbria in the centre of Italy. The insights gained into the personality of the saint and the spiritual tradition of the Friars Minor, which continue to the present day, are set out in this ‘little’ book, appropriate for a ‘little’ Saint who recommended that our words be brief and pondered. The spoken word was regarded by the early Christians as more important and alive than one written down, but the written word is also capable of transmitting an important message to a wider audience. For those who want to have an authentic introduction to St Francis but cannot come to Assisi to hear Friar Eunan directly, or for those who already know something of St Francis but wish to deepen their knowledge of the Saint and the Franciscan tradition, I have no hesitation in recommending this present work.

Fr Massimo Fusarelli OFM, Minister General of the Order of Friars Minor

Br Eunan OFM is a qualified barrister with an interest in human rights who, prior to joining the Friars Minor, worked for the Equality Commission in Belfast. He joined Franciscans International as a member of staff in 2023.
